Episode 2 – Close your eyes and think of England… and other patriotic acts

Melanie and Deborah are back!
In today’s episode…

Deborah blabs about her knitting projects:
- My brother’s afghan (Desert)
- Clapotis
- Aran Afghan – From the Canadian Living Magazine

Use the following words in a sentence and join the movement to bring them back!
- Wack
- Aught

Knitting can be a very patriotic act. In honour of Canada Day and Independence day, Melanie explores this theme.

Melanie’s info sources include:
- The New York Times
- The Christian Science Monitor
- The BBC
- Life Magazine
- The WW2 Encyclopedia

Knitting is even pervasive in music. Enjoy these tunes:

  • Ordinary Day – Great Big Sea (with thanks to the Podsafe Music Network)
  • Pardon me, I didn’t knit that for you – Sung by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne of Mason Dixon Knitting
  • The Knitting Song – “I want to knit myself a sweater” – Sophie Madeleine
  • Jump - Kriss Kross
  • Allegro, il Penseroso ed il – Moderato by Handel
  • Knit One, Purl Two - The Glenn Miller Band
  • Doozer Knitting Song – Fraggle Rock, episode “The Great Radish Famine”

It was really amazing to hear the two of you. I have absoultely no interest whatsoever in knitting (although I have a whole pile of sewing to do on my couch at home when my daughter let’s me get to it). I think Deborah has a terrific ‘radio’ voice and should consider a career in this area. Melanie is also fantastic and she also should consider such a career move. I am curious to know if you are planning to continue your podcasts in other areas as well (beyond knitting). In the meantime, I may just listen in to your podcast for the entertainment value of the listening whether or not I actually pick up a knitting needle at any point in the remainder of my life. By the way my supervisor at work is from Argentina.

I just found your podcast the other day and I LOVE IT!! I knit (so I’m on Deborah’s side in this aspect) but I think it is wonderful that Melanie is helping her with this. You both have wonderful voices; I also love the music choices (and I like the classical music too)
Keep up the fantastic work (and I’ll be looking forward to your next podcast!)

    Bonne in SC

Hey Bonne! Thanks for your comment. I figure that with a group effort, Melanie will have no choice but to join us on the dark side!
